Dear Friends and Family of FAYM,

After 10 years, FAYM is still going strong. At our most recent board meeting we looked back at where we have been and began long term planning with hopes to make the next 10 years even better than the first.

FAYM began with an idea from Mr. Harold Weller, and thanks to the help of many individuals along the way has grown. I especially want to draw attention to our board and all they have done to make that growth possible. Our board members come from different backgrounds and professions that come together for one reason: to bring music education to young people.

None of us are interested in personal fame or fortune. We are only trying to make a difference in the lives of others. I frequently quote the African proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child”. The FAYM village could not exist without the leadership of our board members.

Every month, the board gathers to share ideas and make plans to improve and expand FAYM programs, all in the hope that we are creating a legacy for young people yet to come. We share the dream that this program will continue long after we are gone!

We put in a lot of time, effort, and financial support to keep FAYM going strong. At this time I would like to thank Board Members past, present, and future who have share this mission and work hard to bring it to fruition.

My best wishes to all of you as we approach the holiday season.
-Arturo Ochoa

2017 Winter Recital

On Saturday, December 9, 2017, students, parents, and guests rejoiced in the performance of all of our FAYM students. Students that have only had a violin in their hands since October of this year took to the stage and impressed us with what they have learned in only a two and one half months. They were followed by second year students, third year students, beginning orchestra, Mariachi, and finally advanced orchestra. The theme of this year’s winter concert was “Christmas”, and most of the music played were popular Christmas songs. All of our students did a great job filling our hearts with pride, joy, and Christmas spirit!

This recital was a Christmas celebration and what is Christmas without gifts? We want to thank Mr. Juan Soto and the Logia Panamericana #513 of California Free Masons, who drove a carload of gifts from California to present to each of our kids! This is the 4th year that Logia Panamericana #513 has brought gifts to our students. These wonderful people really do not know us or our kids, but because of their connection with Mr. Soto, they have shown us such generosity over the years.

After the performance we enjoyed delicious food prepared by our parents and watched the students open some awesome gifts. Joy filled the room as we all enjoyed the spirit of Christmas.

Thank you Logia Panamericana #513 and thank you parents for the great food!

Sharing Music With Residents of the North Las Vegas Care Center

On December 2, two of our FAYMsters brought in the Christmas Season for seniors living at the North Las Vegas Care Center. We entered the room and 19 seniors in wheelchairs waited for us to bring in some Christmas cheer! As we started playing Deck the Halls the enthusiasm in the room went up a bit. As they continued a few more numbers, more of the seniors were moving their mouths to the words of the song. By the time we got to the final number, more than half were singing the words aloud with faces full of animation and smiles!

We are very proud of our students and very grateful to their parents for taking the time to bring the children to the care center. A special thanks to Mr. Arturo Hernandez who played a few numbers with the students, Mr. Tim Thomas for organizing the entertainment and serving as the MC, and our FAYMsters Sabdy and Aleksa for doing such a great job bringing Christmas joy and happiness to these seniors!
